My primary creative inspiration comes from travels abroad and the many local places I love. I use sketches, photographs and memories as resources to create botanic and landscape works. As a studio painter, I like to search for a quality of mystery and the ‘not quite real’ rather than photographic reality in my watercolours. I like strong form and rich colour, and aim more for a feeling, atmosphere or remembered perception than creating a faithful rendering.
